Hair Loss

Understanding Hair Loss

Hair loss is a common concern that can affect people of all ages and genders. Whether it’s thinning hair, a receding hairline, or bald spots, losing hair can have a significant impact on your confidence and self-esteem. While it’s normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day, finding excess hair in your brush or on your pillow can sometimes be concerning.

Hair loss can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, stress, lifestyle habits, medical conditions, medications, and even certain hairstyles or treatments. In some cases, hair loss is temporary, while in others, it may be permanent.

Hair Growth Cycle

The Hair Growth Cycle

The average adult head has about 100,000 to 150,000 hair follicles, and each one follows its own natural growth cycle. This cycle has three phases:

Anagen (Growth Phase): Active hair growth that lasts between 2 to 7 years.

Catagen (Transitional Phase): A short, 10–14 day phase where hair growth slows.

Telogen (Resting Phase): About 2–3 months. After this phase, the hair sheds and new hair begins to grow again.

What Causes Hair Loss?

Several factors can disrupt the hair growth cycle and lead to hair loss, including genetics, hormonal changes, medical conditions, medications, stress, illness, childbirth, tight hairstyles, and nutritional deficiencies.
