Melasma Chloasma
Melasma is a common yet complex skin condition that causes patchy, brown or greyish pigmentation, most often on the face. Known as one of the most stubborn and difficult forms of pigmentation to treat globally, melasma has no permanent cure, but with the right care, it can be effectively managed.
At Amaran, we follow internationally recognized guidelines to manage melasma safely and long-term. Our approach includes broad-spectrum sunscreens, medical-grade skincare, targeted in-clinic procedures, and oral supplements or medication to prevent pigment from worsening or spreading. We focus on stabilising your skin, minimising flare-ups, and gradually restoring a more even skin tone.
Where Does Melasma Appear?
Melasma most commonly develops on the face, particularly in these areas: cheeks, forehead, upper lip and chin. It can also appear on sun-exposed areas like the neck and forearms, though less frequently.
What Causes Melasma?
Melasma appears when the skin’s pigment-producing cells overproduce melanin in certain areas.
Hormonal Changes: Pregnancy, birth control pills, and hormone replacement therapy can trigger melasma.
Sun Exposure: UV radiation can trigger and worsen existing pigmentation.
Genetics: A family history of melasma increases risk.
Skin Type: More common in darker skin tones with higher melanin activity.
Visible Light: Light from devices like computers and phones can contribute to melasma.
